Ovolute®
Ovolute® is a synthetic prostaglandin used for:
- Induction or synchronization of estrus.
- Physiological or pathological expulsion of uterine contents.
Data Sheet
Each 100 mL of solution for injection contains:
Cloprostenol Sodium………………………………… 7.89 mg
(Equivalent to 7.5 mg of D(+)-Cloprostenol base)
Excipients c.s.p………………………………………… 100 mL
D-Cloprostenol is a synthetic analogue of PGF2 and has a biological activity similar to this natural endogenous prostaglandin. D-Cloprostenol is capable of producing in small doses the luteolytic and myometrial-stimulating effects of PGF2, which is the basis for its therapeutic indications.
Cattle, sheep, horses and pigs.
- Induction or synchronization of estrus.
If a functional corpus luteum is diagnosed, Ovolute® injection causes luteolysis and estrus with ovulation between the 2nd and 4th day after administration.
The corpus luteum or cysts disappear within a few days. Ovolute® can also be used to shorten the cycle or synchronization of estrus.
- Physiological or pathological expulsion of uterine contents.
Due to the stimulating effect of Ovolute® Onto the muscles of the uterus, the contents of the uterus are expelled. This effect can be used for induction of labor (no earlier than 260 days in cattle and 112 days in pigs), abortion (before day 150 in cattle and 35 days in horses) and endometritis. Abortion or expulsion usually occurs on the 1st or 2nd day after injection.
- Cattle: 2 mL (equivalent to 150 ug of D-Cloprostenol), in all indications.
– Estrus induction and ovulation: From the 2nd day after administration, animals should receive adequate estrus monitoring.
– Estrus synchronization: Repeat the dose 11 days later. Estrus occurs 2 to 4 days later.
- Horses: 0.3 to 1 mL (equivalent to 25 to 75 ug of D-Cloprostenol), in all indications.
– Estrus induction and cycle shortening.
– In labor induction: Administer after day 320 of gestation. Delivery usually takes place within a few hours.
- Pigs: 1 mL (equivalent to 75 ug of D-Cloprostenol), in all its indications.
Induction of labor: Administer after day 112 of gestation. In 70% of cases, delivery should occur 19 to 30 hours after treatment.
- Sheep: 1 mL (equivalent to 75 ug of D-Cloprostenol).
– For synchronization of estrus with progestogens: apply a single dose after removal of the intravaginal device.
– For estrus synchronization with prostaglandins only: Give two doses 7 to 9 days apart. Estrus occurs 2 to 4 days after the second dose.
- Do not use in pregnant females, except as indicated (abortion or childbirth).
- Do not administer to animals that are hypersensitive to cloprostenol.
They have not been described.
- Do not use in animals treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as it inhibits the synthesis of endogenous prostaglandins.
- The activity of other oxytocic agents may be increased following administration of cloprostenol.
