For the treatment of parasitosis caused by gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes, and external parasites such as sucking lice and scabies mites in cattle. Doractin® is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic with a long persistence thanks to its lipophilic properties. It is effective against adult parasites and some L4s of the following species:

  • Nematodes: Ostertagia sp., Cooperia sp., Haemonchus sp., Trichostrongylus sp., Oesophagostomum sp., Nematodirus spathiger, Bunostomum sp., Strongyloides sp., Trichuris sp., Dictyocaulus viviparus.
  • Lice: Haematopinus eurysternus, Linognathus vituli, Solenoptes capillatus.
  • Mites: Psoroptes bovis, Sarcoptes scabiei, var. bovis.

Doramectin belongs to the avermectin family and has a similar structure to Ivermectin. It has a broad spectrum of antiparasitic activity, producing paralysis of nematodes and arthropods. The main mechanism of action of the active component in Doractin® (Doramectin) is to inhibit the electrical activity that controls nerve cells in nematodes and muscle cells in arthropods, causing paralysis and death of the parasite. This occurs because doramectin binds to glutamate-bound chloride ion channels in nerves (nematodes) and muscle cells (arthropods). This reaction results in an increase in chloride ion permeability by the cell membrane causing hyperpolarization of the affected cells and subsequent paralysis and death of the parasite. Doramectin can also bind to chloride ion channels bound to GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid), causing the same effect. Doramectin is widely distributed in the body and, as a lipophilic substance, concentrates in adipose tissue, leading to extended residence in plasma due to its slow release over time. Due to its lipophilic characteristics, the maximum plasma concentration of doramectin in cattle is reached 3 hours after subcutaneous administration.
