It was introduced in the 1990s in order to broaden the antifungal spectrum, increase potency compared to other azoles and reduce adverse effects at the digestive level, especially in prolonged therapies.\nThe antifungal action of itraconazole is generated through a multiple mechanism initiated by the inhibition of two cytochromes P450 involved in the biosynthesis of Ergosterol: CYP51 (sterol-14\u03b1 demethylase) and CYP61 (\u039422-desnaturase). Dermatophytosis by\nMicrosporum canis:<\/td>\n1 mL every 2 kg of body weight (equivalent to 10 mg\/kg) every 24 hours,\nfor 4 weeks. It is recommended to continue the therapy until cure\nmycological or non-existence of dermatophyte isolation in three\nconsecutive weekly crops.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Fungal diseases\n(histoplasmosis,\ncryptococcosis, blastomycosis,\netc.):<\/td>\n0.5 mL per 2 kg body weight (equivalent to 5 mg\/kg) every 12 hours,\nor 1 mL per 2 kg of body weight (equivalent to 10 mg\/kg) every 24\nhours. Therapy should be continued for 2 to 3 months, or up to\nafter 1 month of resolution of the animal's clinical signs.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\nDogs:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
